Hi Yuva, I am having IA now with Mabel in this company called IAT-ASIA PTE LTD. It actually stands for international aerospace tubes, so I see tubes everyday. Those tubes are found in aircraft engines.

Not a very good place to work after graduate though, even though officially its 8 to 5, they work so long that they can skip lunch and dinner for it. But they have a wonderful boss (as in the manager) who takes care of all of us.

What I really wonder will be how come ia students still got to pay school fees for this semester! Haha. All right, I really hope to see replies...

Hey ho dudes and dudettes!

Yuva here. Its been nearly a year since anyone posted anything on this little personal space of ours on the web.

I will admit that i've totally lost contact with all save a few of the original bunch. I have no idea what most us has been doing for the past year or so.

Kind of a rather far drop from the close bunch we used to be huh? I guess coming from different schools, having irregular non-coincidental lecture hours and locations is to blame. No matter, this is one place we can still make an effort to keep in touch with one another.

How about we start a little something here? A catch-up post. Here is how this works. Log into blogger using the username and password (yang.stars@hotmail.com and greateugine) and edit this post by adding your name and a short random (hopefully funny/enlightening) post on yourself and what's been going on for the time we have not seen each other.

I have successfully recovered from a broken arm about a year from today and am back on a bicycle saddle having fun and enjoying life as it ought to be enjoyed.

I will admit my grades for the past semester has dropped by a bit, but its a small price to pay for investing more time in other activites besides mugging, and i highly recommend it. Take time off from your books now and then, get out, enjoy yourself.

PS : If you are into beer, i totally recommend Stella Artois. SGD3.45 a bottle from NTUC and its the bomb after a hard day's work.

If anyone's interested in bicycles by the way, i'm the man you want to talk to. Will even come down with you to any bike shop in singapore to get you your wheels. You all know my number. 974981107 for those who lost their phones or misplaced it =).

And i end this with a slap on the back for everyone for making it this far in life so far, and we have plenty more to look forward to.

high time i liven things up a bit here. Something random and just an outpouting of thoughts.

Starting with some memories , 2 years on.

I miss everyone. There, i said it. I miss the innocent look Meech gives whenever a pervy joke or comment is made *shifty eyes* , i miss the carefree anil , i miss the sarcasm and eye rolls from Wenyan , i miss lay yong whom i have hardly seen since she moved out from hall a year ago.

I guess i just miss seeing the faces i first saw when i walked into Fedor's math1A class, 2 weeks late , totally unprepared and regretting the decision to take up the scholarship after half an hour of listening to limits and epsilons. Sitting in the back of that first ever class in university , Fedor's words passed through and were forgotten, as one forgets a mouthful of tomato soup as dessert is served (okay, perhaps that wasn't a goood analogy, it is 4 am and i just finished blasting the 15 clicks of clear open roads on Lim Chu Kang, and my brains going all fuzzy)......

And so, i remember watching everyone.

The attentive gazes of Sheng Tao and Vee-Liem. The blur looks on Audrey and Anil. The curious glances of Garen , Ching , Evelyn and Zheng Wen at Keegan and me. The abscence of the Tanvi and Tanvee.....

I remember staring at Fedor and picturing him waddling about like a cute penguin. That made me smile throughout the entire hour.....and made me seem like i knew what he was talking about....which probably made him a bit happy.

I really enjoyed this dinner....thnx ZW for organising it!

I guess there is a confession to be made at this point. I never got to know EVERYONE.

I never knew, and i still do not know Mabel , Boss (Irwan) , Raymond , Tanvee and Tanvi , Ching. Not sure if i missed anyone out, but lets press on anyway.

Wonder is its possible to know everyone before graduation day. I shall try XD.

yeah, i was born on the unfortunate date of 1st June. Its always exam period back home and no one is free.

I guess i have not really said this out properly, but i gotta shout this out now:

THANK FREAKING GOD I HAD PEOPLE AROUND ME WHEN I DID THE MOST STUPID THING AND BROKE MY ARM.

It was very moral boosting to have people around while waiting for the ambulance.

PS: I thought the nurse in emergency was cute, or maybe it was the morphine thinking that for me......

Its very comforting to have people come visit you in hospital. And good thing you people did not come in with worried faces but with chocs (yummm) , and a few pranks to boot (antiseptic spray in the part that ought not be sprayed....). I hate people worrying.

By the way peeps,

My roomie and I will be planning some adventures in the hols, one is a short camping trip to Ubin. Rent bikes, cycle about the whole day, then stay overnight. Everyone is more than welcome to join.

On an entirely different note , next year is year 3. We will hardly see each other due to engineering people going off on IA , people flying away on exchange. Is there anyway we can have like a gathering of sorts? I admit, i have no idea beyond the birthdays and outings. Perhaps a form of simple weekend getaway to Bintan or something? (apologies to Wenyan for not going for the one you organised).

Year 4 is worse, with FYP and then graduation. I know its realistically impossible to meet on such a frequent basis as in year 1, but lets make an effort now and then the very least. Its awesome to see everyone.

Nowadays....... (the following are just observations of a chap bored to bits with NTU exam life and is not intended to be judgemental)..

1) Mun Ling seems to walk about in a daze when i see her. Perhaps its only when i see her she seems that way.

2) Meech looks very flustered.

3) CBE must be super tough, everyone there seems stressed. All the more reason to go camping with me in hols :P

4) Aero ppl look just as bad. ZW sighs everytime he sees me.

5) did you know that Hall 9, Block 45 has 215 stairs? (told you this is random).....

6) Twei runs pretty fast. But you need to trick her into believing the route you're running is shorter when its really not..... (sorry Twei, the short and painful route was actually long and painful.....but u did burn more calories! You may thank me when you read this)

7) I'm staring at a spot on my table, waiting for inspiration of sorts for the next random obseration. It now 4.45 am and i am regretting drinking damn coffee.....

I guess i'll end it off here. Its a privilage to know you lot and i am truly enjoying the company and friendship i have found here (dabs a trickle of sweat , it sure is a warm night....).

I do apologise for the inappropriateness of the above post, if any, and really realy hope that you guys , while reading this post , had a laugh at some point. If you did, then my work here is done. To entertain and try to destress you lot , the purpose of this post is.

Hey peeps!

We had a dinner at Vivo last year before the start of sem 2. Any such plans in motion this time around? Would be great for everyone to get out once in a while.

Sem 2 is starting soon! And it'll be over before we know it like the previous one....and the ones before that.....

And then 3rd year whizzes by.....

Before we know it, 2011 will be here...... I do wonder what comes next? Work obviously, but i seriously doubt anything can top uni life.

Oh well , this is just a random post to get people to start posting more. Hopefully it works..

I have just upgraded the old template to the new one. The simpson old skin requires the old html to work, while this current "Field of dreams" skin is use the new web technology. Actually it is not very new, just xml. It makes editing the layout much easier. You guys are welcomed to make any changes to this blog. It is very user-friendly, it does not require much technical knowledge to edit the content here. Remember, this blog belongs to all of us!

Happened to read this:

Halley's comet, which passed around the sun early in 1986, moves in a highly elliptical orbit with an eccentricity of 0.967 and a period of 76 years. This orbit takes the comet inside the path of Venus, almost to Mercury's orbit, and out past even the orbit of Neptune and sometimes even the moderately eccentric orbit of Pluto. Edmond Halley is generally given the credit for bringing Newton's work on gravitational and central forces to the attention of teh world. After observing the comet personally in 1682, Halley became interested. Partly as a result of a bet between Christopher Wren and Rober Hooke, Halley asked Newton in 1684 what paths the planets must follow if the Sun pulled them with a force inversely proportional to the square of their distances. To the astonishment of Halley, Newton replied, "Why, in ellipses, of course." Newton had worked it out 20 years previously but had not published the result. With painstaking effort, Halley was able in 1705 to predict the next occurence of the comet, now bearing his name in 1758.

Second year at NTU.......what to expect?

This blog has been pathetically void of any new posts in the past few weeks, apart from Suky's youtube post on Kiwi (seriously people, animation is cool....course, hearing that line a lot from one's roomie in ADM has made me biased a bit....so sue me).

Righto, I shall take on this task of reviving this blog with some new prediction for the 2008/2009 academic year...

1) Fresh scholars shall be cool

They will be under us...nuff said

2) We shall all have put on a few extra pounds come August

This shall be true....at least for the foreigners, Malaysians especially. Yes folks. WE LOVE OUR FOOD. And the fact that back home, a regular KL-ite or a Penang-ite has roughly 5 to 6 meals a day (breakfast, brunch, lunch, tea, dinner, supper....and that extra meal you have when watching a late night EURO match on the telly....)...does not help much.

Moms having not seen their darlings for months will cook a lot (at least in my case) and they will force feed you...stopping short of a feeding tube of course.

3) We will have a vacation...................I hope

Like Bintan, I hope we have a vacation of sorts come December. How about Pulau Pangkor (can take a bus) or Bali if we want a further location?

4) Math will be tougher

We do not have Fedor :(
I shall sorely miss the russian and his chocolates- for- typos barter system. But we shall celebrate his birthday every year :P (any excuse to eat cake)

5) We shall go for a Sakura Buffet dinner again

It was good the first time and Boon Chong is in the mood for another one. Unlimited unagi and sashimi is appealing no?

I have run out of idea at the moment. You guys can add to this post if you have anything in mind about what to expect this coming sem and the next.

Its been quite a fabulous First Year

Its been quite a ride this first year of life in the scholar's programme. Words can't describe what the experience has been. I guess the closest i can come to describing the whole thing would be to use the analogy of the feeling you get after a major overly decadent Godiva chocolate gorging session..........with a younger Salma Hayek or a Catherine Zeta Jones feeding you (for guys) or either Brad Pitt in a Achilles outfit (from Troy) or Jonny Depp in a Jack Sparrow get up (for the ladies...forgive me if i got your idea of an uber hottie guy all wrong).

Does anyone believe in fate or a higher power? If you do, what do you think of this? What do you think I should do?

Say you are going through a patch with someone and haven't spoken in a really long time, but recently had an MSN conversation initiated by the other party..

Then after that, you think about the person for a couple of days and make up your mind to contact that person in a week's time. However, on the 2nd day of that decision you happen to hear the radio and find out some local news that concerns that person and you decide to message that person.

Now you see, all this while, when you have not been talking, you have noticed that there are really a lot of different people around and that one person is special, but may not be that special. However at the same time, you also see that despite there being so many different people around, there is no one just like that person.

When the upsetting thing happened, I believed that it was God telling me that it was just not right, just not the one, just not to be. Then suddenly, there's this god-send reason to talk to that person that you just don't expect. So is that God speaking again? That it may not be the right time, but don't keep your eyes off this person because this person is special?

Does anyone understand these ramblings? If you do, what do you think i should do?

I'm sorry but I won't be able to commit for theconference. As you expected, I'm busy with academicwork and CCA commitments. Life in 2nd year isn't easy=P Besides I have no experience being an emcee.

Must the emcees really come from us when there arebetter candidates for this responsibility? If theschool administration really cannot find 2 emcees tohost this grand and formal international event, Isuggest they look for interested parties from NTU CACEmcee Club. I'm sure they would be more comfortableand competent on stage than us. I really disagree thatif none of us is confident for the job, some randompoor souls should be nominated. This either suggeststhat the school admin is not really asking forvolunteers, or some poor decision making from themanagement with regards to manpower issues for theconference.

On a lighter note, well-said about putting our bestfoot forward and recommending ourselves. That was howwe easily got volunteers for the Nanyang ScholarshipCeremony, to man the booth for NTU Open House, to poseduring the publicity photoshoots as well as to helpwrite articles after attending talks by renownedscientists. Helping the school admin is a good way tocontribute back, if you have the time and energy.

But I'm a bit skeptical about the conference being ascholarship related activity. If I'm not wrong, it'svery much a NTU event. I would understand why theschool admin would like volunteers from C N YangScholars' programme, cos of the link in name and thecommon misconception that because of privileges fromHAS, we are not involved in any other school and CCAactivities.

I'm sure you also have stresses from academic work andCCA commitments. If you have been placed under unduepressure from the school admin with their issues, feelfree to speak with our Director of C N Yang Programme,Prof Alex Law. Frankly, I think it is 1 thing for theschool admin to ask us for help, and another thing forthem to expect help.

In any case, this 1 response should be better comparedto no response to the last email. =)

How come this blog seems so quiet? It's like as though no one reads it at all. Aren't the tagboards of class blogs always flooded?

Anyway, its confirmed. We're doing the Mambo dance again, to save time since the performance date is in about three weeks and the exams are coming up real close too.

PS: I found it so untactful when Prof Alex mentioned just now that we don't need to spend too much time on the performance BECAUSE WHETHER YOU SPEND TWO DAYS OR TWO WEEKS ON IT, THE AUDIENCE WILL STILL SAY IT'S GOOD. I mean, if he said that we shouldn't spend too much time on it because studies are more important blah blah, then that's quite reasonable. But the fact that he put it that way took me by surprise. I mean, does it mean to say that those high-up scientists have so little sense of the arts that they cannot tell a good dance from a slipshod one? I dare you to go tell a professional dancer that all his years of dancing has been a waste of time because the audience can't tell the difference anyway.

My point is, even though we're doing the same dance again, even though we're pressed for time and all, please have some pride to see the item through till the final performance kayy =)?

Like Garen has mentioned, we'll be putting up two performances for CN Yang's birthday, so I need your opinions for the dance.

Do you want to do the same Mambo dance again?

I have a suggestion. A fusion of slow and fast dance!

I can help choreograph the slow part, and our dear modernjazzer Evelyn can help with the fast part.

Anyway, any music preferences? I found a song that has nice beat thats not too fast since the concern is that some of you are amateur dancers (which doesn't really matter. everyone has an inner groover man! so let it show.) BUT, the thing about slower beat is your moves have to be BIG and impressive. Like this:

CN Yang Conference

Dear Yangsters,

As some of you already know, we will have to put up a couple of performances on the 1st and 2nd of November during the CN Yang conference.

For the item on the 1st of November details have been finalized and we will be putting up a music item consisting of band members in our midst.

For the item on the 2nd of November, we will be putting up a dance item. It will be something like what Audrey, Zheng Wen, Evelyn and Yuan Hang did for the Nanyang scholarship thing. However because we are now 4 short of the original 8 and more people will be better to fill the stage and Zheng Wen is already performing on the 1st, we will need more people.

I've already asked some of you on MSN and so has audrey, so if I have not contacted you yet, I hope you can help us out in this event. So if you are willing and able, please help us out and lets work together on this! =]

Hi guys.

Everytime during maths tutorial, usually nobody dare to ask any question because nobody wants to go to the board and do. As a result, we can't get the full solution for the tutorial question.

I have a suggestion!

We shall plant people within ourselves for the 2 tutorial groups to ask questions, especially the more challenging ones. Different groups of people will ask questions every week. In this way, we can get the full solution for the questions we want!!

If you guys agree to it, we can sort ourselves up when we meet up in school on Monday. Recess week is going to be over soon, I hope that everyone have put it into good use (not me).

Totally agree with Garen's idea of that water park (assuming that place is a waterpark..dunno). Neways, we need to do something on Friday or Saturday nights together, at least once a month.

And we need Singaporeans to show us what's good in Singapore....so people, please stay back in uni for one weekend a month at least.....PLEASE?!

anyway, thanks for everyone contributing through the email spamming. though all great plans has yet to realised, the idea of a support group's kinda nice. cuz i'm totally T.T all the time these days. especially after today's very infomative session with the associate chair for academic for CEE (ask aneel n weiping). it's SUPER stress inducing i must say. i think u guys prob have similar sessions?

anyone wants study together during the RECESS WEEK? sorry supposed to discuss outing right? as earlier said, today's session has made me decide to morph into muggergirlofthecentury. recess week is the week i swear to start doing my math tutorial 2,3,4,5,6. you kinda get the idea. so we go out on monday but study on tuesday ya? i think it's quite hard to catch up during term time anyway when everything is going at a rather fast pace.

oh ya. i just realised that bio notes are actually not very useful if u don't have the time to read through them. it's a better idea to start memorising exam answers?

and one more thing i got out from today's little session is that I CAN ONLY S/U ONE MODULE in my FOUR YEARS OF UNI. -gasp in horror- is everyone the same? mmm..bio, chem, maths. tough choice mann. URGH. yucks.

to those trying to understand the meaning of life, my take on it is that it's really about the pursue of happiness. so in life, i believe in doing things that make you happy. and not those that you THINK will make you happy. and also about being appreciative of what you already have. love's all around. open your eyes ^.^ spread a lil love. mm..yepps. my 2cents worth.

I totally agree with raymond, we each have our own strenghts. Obviously there are a few among us that are good in math, a some that are good in physics, some in biology and some in chemistry. After all, there really is too much information to learn in such a short space of time. I want to propose two things that I hope we can do together.

1) Every monday and wednesday we end lectures at 3.30, we can sit together for the next 2 hours to help each other with all topics, just so long as we sit together we are sure to be able to have time to discuss things out. Location shouldn't be a problem, so long as we have eugene =]

2) We see other so often that really, we should have activities not-related to school activities only so that we know each other out of the scope of school. So it'll really be good to go out on monday after prof law's birthday.

So if we get enough support, I'll ask eugene to book a lecture room or class room every monday and tuesday for us for the next few weeks, but we must use it ok? So please second the motion only if you are sure you will be dedicated to it.

And as for an outing on monday, dinner is most definitely out of the question, but we could either head out for a movie (not at JP please) or have an outing to west coast park (we can let our inner kids out there, if you have been there you'll know what i mean). Of course if you have cooler ideas (any one can come up with a cooler idea than what I have raised, for sure) and feel that you want to do it, please feel free to voice it!
